News Release
Deepsky Astronomy Software version 2006.01.01

Janesville, Wisconsin November 1, 2005 – Steven S Tuma today announced the release of his latest Deepsky Astronomy Software product Version 2006.01.01. This latest version is the biggest update to the software since the original Deepsky 2000 software was released back in 1996. The software, commonly known as Deepsky, is a suite of observing tools aimed at making the observing session more productive. The tools include a massive database of deep sky objects, an integrated observing planner, an observer’s logbook, thousands of images on CD and DVD, information on solar system objects, ASCOM telescope control, and an easy to use yet highly configurable star chart creator.

The latest version adds a host of new features including the ability to keep observing journals and supports automatic posting to personal blogs at astronomyblogs.com. Deepsky’s new “common name” search facility is a complete overhaul of the previous search engine which makes it very easy to locate objects by common name, object ID, or by other designations. Other new features include:

• A query that displays over 300 favorite objects like M42 and the Veil Nebula.
• An annotated map of the Moon and Mars.
• New spreadsheet features including filtering, refreshing calculations, & shortcut keys.
• Improved logbook features like scanning photos or sketches directly into the logbook.
• Easier object selection by using a new consolidated filtering and sorting screen.
• The ability to automatically load the last spreadsheet on startup.
• A complete user interface overhaul.
• Nearly four hours of training videos that jump start users into the Deepsky realm.

To compliment all the great features in the latest release, Mr. Tuma has also announced a new distribution model. Although Deepsky can still be purchased from his website directly, it will also be available for sale from various distributors. Anyone who purchases a minimum of five copies can become a distributor and will get discounts in the range of 40% to 50%. They can then resell the software at star parties, club meetings, or even in their own store’s at a profit. This opens up new possibilities for astronomy clubs who are looking for fundraiser ideas.

According to Mr. Tuma, what sets Deepsky apart from its competition is that it contains a fully mature suite of tools developed with considerable user input, is reasonably priced, and includes nearly 4 hours of training videos on the CD and DVD versions.
