AstroStack: new release coming up
on Friday, June 04, 2004 - 09:15 PM GMT - 3166 Reads
CCD related programs (News) More than four years ago AstroStack was one of the first, free programs to enhance digital video and photography....

Since then many amateur astronomers have discovered the combination of modest equipment, cheaply available cameras and the right software, and have achieved results they never thought possible.

Compare the best amateur photos of today with professional photographs made with the worlds most expensive telescopes and the old chemical film process some years ago, and you'll agree that a revolution has swept through the amateur astronomers backyard.

During the past four years AstroStack has undergone several changes and continues to be a popular program despite new programs becoming available.

We continue to serve your needs the best way possible and decided to take AstroStack a step further. Improve support, increase functionality and also cater for the communities of Linux and Macintosh as well as Windows users.

Hard work has been put into redesigning AstroStack to make it more extensible, up-to-date and future proof. It will handle grayscale as well as full color images. All built on a robust, future-proof architecture.

We are committed to continuously improve the functionality, have a fast turnaround time for updates and new developments and provide a high level of support. In return for our full-time dedication to AstroStack, the full functional version will be priced according to the value provided. A free demo will still be available however.

You can read more on the release date, pricing and features below and on the website.

EXCITING NEW FUNCTIONALITY

Plug-ins:
One of the most interesting features is the use of plug-ins. This means that the basic program can be extended. In fact most of the functionality of the program is built around plug-ins. There will be a growing list of plug-ins, many of them free of charge!
Projects:
You can save a project and get back later to continue working on it, with all your settings intact. You can also work with multiple projects at the same time.
A project consists of the following categories: acquire, preprocess, align & stack, postprocess, store. Each of these categories can contain one or more plug-ins that do the real work. You are completely free to change the number or order of plug-ins within a category.
Full color:
AstroStack will handle full color with the same ease as gray level pictures.
Flexibility:
The combination of multiple projects and plug-ins means there is a high degree of flexibility in your work, while keeping a clear overview and ease of use.
AstroStack now also available for MAC and Linux users:
The new program will run under all major operating systems.
User adjustable scaling:
The main program and the two viewing windows can be scaled independently to suit your needs and fit your computer screen. No fixed size as with AstroStack 2.
Miscellaneous:
Image sizes up to approx. 3000x2000 pixels are supported, which caters for the current 6 mega pixel digital cameras on the market
