For many users the very best of the CCD and webcams image processing program now has a new version. Registax V3 offers a bunch of new functions...
Registax V3 has many new funtions:
NEW:Multiple AVI (bypassing the 2Gb filelimit)
NEW: Direct RAW AVI debayering (incl. usage of raw darkframes)
NEW: PNG lossless compressed files support (input 8/16 bit/channel)
AVI (8 bit/channel; optimized for NON-compressed formats)
BMP/JPEG (8 bit/channel)
TIFF (8 and 16bit/channel)
FIT (16 and 32 bit/channel; multiple channels in one file NOT supported)
OUTPUT
NEW: Registered AVI-sequence output (non-compressed)
NEW: PNG lossless compressed files (16 bit/channel)
JPEG (8 bit/channel)
BMP/JPEG (8bit/channel)
TIFF( 16 bit/channel)
FIT (16/32 bit/channel; multiple channels in one file NOT supported)
PROCESSING
Registration
The registration in RegiStax V3 has been optimized to run a lot faster and give the user more options to select images. The 3 new quality estimation methods allow better initial quality estimates.
NEW: Zoom window to precisely aim at alignment features
NEW: De-rotation; a simple (experimental) way to automatically de-rotate image sequences
NEW: show the images as negative during selection; mainly for use with DSO images
Fast Fourier Transformation Initial alignment system
NEW: Automatic best FFT filtersetting estimation (user changeable)
32,64,128,256 en 512 (new) alignment areas
Estimated alignment area shown during aligning
Image quality estimation (3 new methods) during alignment
NEW: Automatic best quality filtersetting (used in older methods) estimate
NEW: Image sequence ordered according to quality available for frame-selection
Image power-spectrum and quality-estimate shown during alignment
Bias subtract for noisy images
Darkframes/flatfields active during alignment
Object tracking (incl. prediction for fast moving features) and misalignment warnings
Horizontal and vertical de-interlacing
Debayering for RAW-AVIs
Several selection methods to select/deselect single frames (slider) or groups (framelist feature)
Saving of frame-sequences (non AVI formats) to files (for later usage)
Manual alignment (for difficult sequences)
Fast Full automatic processing (load your input-files, press one button !)
OPTIMISATION
The optimizer in RegiStax V3 has been improved to run a lot faster. Several new features have been added including the creation of a better reference-frame for optimal alignment.
NEW: Create a reference-frame based on a short image sequence
User defined search area and penalty-function (% improvement) during optimizing
NEW: a toolwindow that shows the estimated movements of your sequence vs the referenceframe
Optimizer shows improvement directly in a graph during optimizing
Optimizer shows estimated alignment area during optimizing
NEW: Images can be filtered (user defined filter) during the optimisation sequence (for noisy images)
Resampling of images (4 methods) with factors 1,0 till 4,0
Automatic processing (optimize & stack) or user controlled (optimize)
STACKING
Image expanding; this will enlarge the final image to show all possible features from the sequence (maximized)
NEW: Histogram stretching; default on in V2. Now the user can set this control, when ON the image-data (after stacking) will be stretched over a 0-255 intensity range (32 bit floating point values).
NEW: Images can be filtered (user defined filter) during the stacking sequence (for noisy images)
NEW: SIGMA CLIPPING; stacking of images but with hi-lo limits for every pixel in the final image. This is very usefull for images with hot/dark pixels without the need of darkframes.
NEW: Drizzling; a new approach (experimental) to enlarge images without resampling (so no interpolation) mainly usefull with large image-sequence
NEW: AVI saving; The alignment area or the maximum area visible in all frames can be saved as a registered sequence (original frame-order)
De interlacing (4 methods)
Selecting/Deselecting of frames using a list or graphically
NEW: During inspection of frames the estimated registration centre is shown
Save results as BMP/JPEG/TIFF/FIT/PNG
WAVELET PROCESSING
The main power of RegiStax is located in the wavelet tab. This is where all the registered and stacked image information can be used by the user to enhance the image.
General functions
User set automatic image-processing updating
Contrast/Brightness control (NEW: numeric control;)
Gamma control (0.1 - 10.0)
User defined Gamma-response (NEW: saving/loading of response function)
Histogram control (all colours, stretching, colourweight)
NEW: automatic colourbalance estimating in Histogram
RGB shift control (estimates the shift in RGB colours; NEW: improved and better functionality)
Wavelets
A complete new set of wavelets are available : Gaussian wavelets. They are freely user-controlled for every wavelet-layer with a single value. This value controls the form and size of the waveletfilter for that layer (controlsetting is equal to the estimated full-width at half maximum in pixels for the gaussian filter).
User controlled basic 5x5 matrix Wavelet-filter (save/load of filter allowed)
NEW: User controlled Gaussian filters (allows more precise image-enhancement)
User controlled setting for the layers (slider and checkbox)
Preview (button) of layerinformation (red/green image and minimal-maximal intensity)
NEW: Save/Load wavelet-schemes. This includes all settings belonging to the wavelet-filter (incl. Gaussian)
Do All function to process the full image with current settings (only when image is large)
LRGB (only available when stacked with LRGB option) colour and luminance control
Resize window; resampling with 4 different methods of the final image; saving only in 8 bit formats(BMP/JPEG)
Save image; saves result in BMP/JPEG (8 bit/channel) or FIT, TIFF and PNG (16bit/channel) formats
