  Visual Ephemeris for Uranian Moons
Description: This program will generate an ephemeris with the same accuracy which can be obtained from BDL's Ephemerides Server for the five major moons of Uranus. It is based on GUST86 and VSOP87C.Ura theories form the BDL FTP site which they currently use. The major difference with this software is that there are both text and graphics allowing the user to view the moons from 4700BC to at least 6000AD. The program will generate a one time view or one may select a realtime ephemeris for any date, updating every ten seconds for up to twenty-four hours. Typical accuracy is better than .01 arcsecond (typically .001) due to compiler differences.

  STS Orbit Plus
Description: Allows you to follow the position of the space shuttle and of an extended artificial satellites database across the globe and to calculate their visible passes over your location. Explore the several types of map projection and satellite tracking - press F1 for help while on a map.

For more details visit the homepage and do not forget to get the most recent update of the orbital elements file here (file tlexxx.zip, in which xxx is day of the year - for accurate predictions the secret is to update regularly); as well as the Level 3 Earth Map (allows increased zoom).

Since version 0012, it is now also possible to self-update the TLE file with a single key press by installing the additional STSUpdat program.

  Software by Mel Bartels
Description: Programs mostly related to Telescope Making. Applications offered include:

DIAGONAL: program, and code to analyze diagonal sizes, giving off-axis illumination profile and other data

RONCHI: program, and code to figure newtonian mirrors with a Ronchi grating

CONVERT: program, and code to convert between coordinate systems using the 2-star alignment method; runs in real-time

ATIME: program, and code to convert between astronomical times

PRECESS: program, and code to precess coordinates (converting between coordinate years)

32: program, and code to run the 32" equatorial telescope at Pine Mountain Observatory

foldref: program to calculate eyepiece height of folded reflectors

BAFFLE.BAS: BASIC program to calculate the dimensions of a baffle ring just below the focuser (this helps greatly in rejecting unwanted light from the focal plane)

  SkyGlobe
Description: Classical DOS planetarium.

Although not particularly accurate by current standards, it is still a splendid application since the way it uses the display and the simplicity of operation remain virtually unbeaten.

  SBIG Camera Control/Image Processing Software (DOS)
Description: SBIG offers several software packages supporting its various cameras on the PC, Macintosh and Windows platforms. The software titles are arranged on this page (click the title link above) according to operating system. These packages have image acquisition and image processing functions:

* CCD, CCDUTIL, CCDBLINK and CCDTRACKare DOS packages for the ST-4 only.

* CCDOPS for DOS supports the ST-4X, ST-5, ST-5C, ST-6 and parallel port based ST-7, ST-8, ST-9, ST-10, PixCel 255 and PixCel 237.

These files are the latest production release of the SBIG Camera Control and Image Processing Software. They read and display SBIG native image formats. These are full working copies and can be used for evaluation or to upgrade your existing software if you are using a previous version with an SBIG camera.

  Satf
Description: Satellite tracking set of utilities allowing you:

. to analyze one or more satellites over a given period;
. to classify by chronological order the passes obtained for this period;
. to visualize the movements of a satellite around an Earth globe;
. to visualize the movements of a satellite in the sky from any location;
. to see a pre-prepared demonstration of the program capabilities;
. to try to identify a satellite seen by chance;
. to read a TLE file of orbital elements and selectively create another only with the satellites you picked;
. to update the files considering the standard magnitudes;
. to store the data for new locations;
. to classify a TLE by order decreasing order of NORAD numbers;
. to analyze the passes of satellites even if they are not visible (useful for radio amateurs).

The programs are programmed in DOS. They will run in Windows too.

  Predict
Description: PREDICT provides real-time satellite tracking and orbital prediction information to users and client applications in a variety of ways: Through the system console; Through the command line; Through a network socket; Through the generation of audio speech.

Data such as a spacecraft's sub-satellite point, azimuth and elevation headings, Doppler shift, path loss, slant range, orbital altitude, orbital velocity, footprint diameter, orbital phase (mean anomaly), squint angle, eclipse depth, the time and date of the next AOS (or LOS of the current pass), orbit number, and sunlight and visibility information are provided on a real-time basis. PREDICT can also track (or predict the position of) the Sun and Moon. PREDICT also has the ability to control AZ/EL antenna rotators to maintain accurate orientation in the direction of communication satellites. As an aid in locating and tracking satellites through optical means, PREDICT can articulate tracking coordinates and visibility information as plain speech.

This is the DOS version. Linux and Sharp Zaurus PDA version are also available.

  Planet Tracker
Description: Planet Tracker is built in three modules: 1) Animations of planetary motion along the ecliptic and against the background of the Zodiac stars; 2) Split-screen animations comparing five different frames of reference, allowing any two to be compared side-by-side - the five viewpoints are: the apparent dome of the sky for a fixed time of day, the zodiac as seen from the Earth, heliocentric solar system, geocentric solar system, and a special rotating frame of reference holding both the earth and sun stationary; 3) Worksheet generator for classrooms without computers - including the features: «Basic Worksheets» (produces heliocentric and geocentric orbit diagrams and time lines for any given starting date), «Zodiac Time Line» (for any day of the year project the planet positions on that date up to the ecliptic, which runs along the center of the star chart strip at the top of the page) and «Solar Time Line».
