The file size unzips to a tiny 188KB program and a check of Windows Task Manager Processes shows "newtwin.exe"s CPU needs as 00 and Mem Usage "blank"KBs. The probable reason is NEWT was written to run on Windows 3.1!! Its "bug" free and as never "crashed" on me.
It runs great on my Windows XP Software and I think it would run on any computer having any Windows Software all the way back to Microsoft DOS. Anyone having a Newtonian Telescope and a computer using Windows Software would find NEWT an aid in checking the layout of an out-of-the-box telescope or in designing a home-built telescope. It comes packaged with a "Help" resource but the program is so well laid out you probably won't need it.
I first downloaded NEWT over 1 1/2 years ago and and my computer recently took a "hit" after I accidently opened a "spam" email. To reclaim my computer from a category 5 trojan horse I had to get out my 6 Compaq System Recovery CD's and start over by bringing my hardrive back to only its factory new software again. I couldn't locate my NEWT backup so I'm downloading it again.
I scanned " newt25.zip" with ZoneAlarm Anti-virus and Webroot SpySweeper for any malicious content, its "clean" so the author has no hidden agenda in this software. If your new to downloading (1) just down load the file someplace you can find it, (2) "double-click" the yellow file icon with a zipper and the Windows Extraction Wizard will open,(3) "click" the Wizard's "Next" bar,(4)then "click" the Wizard's "next" bar a second time to unzip the file(5) "click" "Finish" and NEWT's program folder opens. (6) "right-click" on the colorful icon look for "Create Shortcut" and "click" it to make a shortcut then move the shortcut to your desktop. (7) then clean-up by moving the "newt25" program folder to Program Files. Since "newt25.zip" is only 70KB its easily backed-up on a floppy diskette, then delete the downloaded zip file and your done.
