Designed to be a map-based viewer showing both sunrise/sunset times and whether it's night or day at various worldwide locations. It also allows you view the movement of the Sun and Moon and major planets from different places on Earth. Sun Times allows investigation of the daily, monthly and yearly cycles of the Earth and Solar System, for example, it shows how sunset and sunrise times vary between different places at different times of the year.
Help for Sun Times aims to explain some of the factors which affect sunrise and sunset times.
Includes a database of 3,500 worldwide locations (with latitude, longitude, populations and timezones).
Some of the features:
- View the Sun's compass bearing, angle above the horizon, and the colour of the sky during twilight
- Watch twilight move across maps of the World, Europe and North America
- Plot and animate a flight itinerary showing the effect of flying on observed sunrise and sunset times.
- View information about locations around the world where the sun is currently rising or setting
- Zoom in on the main world map to create a custom map
- Find and animate Solar eclipses from different locations on Earth
- Add and edit the Time Zones and Daylight Saving Time Rules of locations
- Produce a yearbook of sunrise and sunset times for a specific location
- View Dawn and Dusk times
- View how the total "top of atmosphere" solar radiation varies according to time of year and location
- Calculate planetary positions and distances from Earth
- Animate the path of the Sun, Moon and major planets across the sky relative to an observer's horizon
- Animate the path of the major planets in their orbits around the Sun
