The program is supplied as a self-extracting ZIP file called COMET.EXE. Download the COMET.EXE file to a folder you have created and run the COMET.EXE file. The files required to create a full working copy CMTWIN32 will be extracted and decompressed into that folder. To run CMTWIN32 just double click on the CMTWIN32.EXE file.
The CMT_EPHM.EXE utility will allow the user to download the comet orbital elements from the Observable Comets web page and convert those downloaded elements into the CMTWIN32 format.

Comete e Asteroidi | | Description: | Superb program, suitable for all those interested in the smaller bodies of the solar system. The orbital parameters of the celestial objects are split in files with the elements of comets (*.Mtc) and of asteroids (*.Tda). All parameters can be modified and updated by the user, which can also create new files or import the ones used by the most popular software suites (Megastar, Skymap, Guide, Dance of the Planets, MPC).
Features offered include:
- Calculates the ephemerides of a comet or asteroid for a given moment;
- Calculates the visibility of a comet or asteroid for a given place, taking into account the horizon and the effect of the refraction due to the atmospheric pressure and to the temperature of the air.
- Calculates the parameters of magnitude (g) and (k) of a comet using the ASCII files from the IAUC or by directly inputting the required values;
- Calculates the absolute magnitude (h) of an asteroid using the same procedure;
- Calculates the orbital parameters of a celestial body from observations made;
- Searches in the archives of comets and asteroids for an object whose equatorial coordinates at a given instant coincide with those observed in a direct observation or photography
- Converts a date to the Julian calendar and vice-versa
- Shows the position of a celestial body over the horizon and by reference to the Sun and Moon and calculates the Moon Phases.
- Shows a celestial sphere with stars down to mag. 5.4
- Recalculates the orbital elements of a comet or asteroid from one date to another by taking into account the main disturbing factors of solar system orbits.

Comet for Windows | | Description: | Comet for Windows is a software to analyze light curves of comets, or to support observation of comets.
You can display light curves of comets using observations around the world, calculate the magnitude formula based on that data, predict future brightness of comets, make a plan to observe comets, draw chart and look up magnitude of comparison stars, and so on.
Tools are provived to import data from most common formats/sources as well as to input new orbital elements.

Órbitas | | Description: | This program allows one to select an asteroid or a comet from a list, subsequently presenting the respective orbital elements. Next it calculates, for a given moment, the topocentric coordinates of the body, the distances to the Sun and Earth, magnitude, elongation, angle of phase and velocity. If the object select is a comet, it can also calculate the size of the coma and tail. At last, it plots a scheme of the orbit depicting the position of the object and the Earth.
Note: includes a feature to automatically update/download the elements (MCP). | | | Version: | 1 | | Filesize: | 390.62 Kb | | Added on: | 15-Dec-2003 | | Downloads: | 504 | | Rating: | 7.5 (2 Votes) | | Category: | Windows / Ephemerides - Comets & Asteroids | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details | Comments (1)
Find_Orb | | Description: | FIND_ORB can take a set of observations of an asteroid or comet, given in MPC (Minor Planet Center) format, and find the corresponding orbit. (The MPC format is used because it is a "standard" used by most astrometry software, including Charon).
It can determine orbits of artificial Earth satellites and for satellites of other planets. It exists as both a 16-bit Windows program, and as a 32-bit Windows program (above the second). The only difference between the two is that the 32-bit version is considerably faster.
FIND_ORB is a user-friendly program that handles the initial determination of the orbit using the method of Herget. Given some more observations, it can find a "best fit" orbit using the method of least squares . It's sufficiently bright to include the perturbing effects of the planets and Earth's moon, and may eventually include effects of Jupiter's four largest satellites, Titan, and of the first four asteroids. | | | Filesize: | 401 bytes | | Added on: | 15-Feb-2005 | | Downloads: | 484 | | Category: | Windows / Ephemerides - Comets & Asteroids | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details
MPCOrb | | Description: | You do not have Internet Access in the place you observe and you are unable to check if the little spot you are observing is a new asteroid? You do not own a recent computer and your sky charts drawing program chokes whenever you try to process the complete MPCOrb? Then this is the program you need.
With it you are able to filter the MCP asteroids database file according to specific criteria and convertit in something lighter and more usable. You are offered a mini graphical checker and the ability to consult in a few seconds the data of any given asteroid.
