If you have a fast computer - set 'True Worlds'-option 'On', and you will not be disappointed. Supports full screen resolution 800x600 up to 1600x1200. | | | Version: | 3.8 | | Filesize: | 21.62 MB | | Added on: | 04-July-2004 | | Downloads: | 1931 | | Rating: | 4.7 (3 Votes) | | Category: | Windows / 3D Simulation | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details | Comments (3)
AstroFly | | Description: | The main purpose is to present the three-dimensional models of our neighborhood in our own Milky Way Galaxy on a personal computer. The 3D models are based on the remarkable Hipparcos and Tycho Catalogues, which are the products of the European Space Agency's Hipparcos Space Astrometry Mission.
Features include: you can fly anywhere in space; each star is depicted with its "real" color; you can filter stars by many parameters; simplified Wireframe of our Milky Way Galaxy is available; you can check a star in the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram; finding a famous star by its names is available; you can study constellations.»
The present version of AstroFly consists of two packages:
. The first package (mandatory - click the title above) - AstroFly 3.0 Basic Package (6.9 MB) - installs AstroFly' executables and the star database derived from the Hipparcos Catalogue.
. The second package (optional) - AstroFly 3.0 Plus Package (19.6 MB) - installs only the star database derived from the Tycho Catalogue.

Celestia | | Description: | Celestia is a free real-time space simulation that lets you experience our universe in three dimensions. Unlike most planetarium software, Celestia doesn't confine you to the surface of the Earth. You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond the galaxy. All travel in Celestia is seamless; the exponential zoom feature lets you explore space across a huge range of scales, from galaxy clusters down to spacecraft only a few meters across. A 'point-and-goto' interface makes it simple to navigate through the universe to the object you want to visit.
This is the Windows version. Add-ons, Mac OS X, FreeBSD and Linux versions are also available. | | | Version: | 1.3.2 | | Filesize: | 10.95 MB | | Added on: | 01-Aug-2003 | | Downloads: | 3614 | | Rating: | 8.9 (25 Votes) | | Category: | Windows / 3D Simulation | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details | Comments (9)
Copernic | | Description: | A real-time simulator of the Solar System and its surroundings written under the OpenGL environment using C/C++. It offers the posibility to view satellites, planets, asteroids, comets, centaurs, transneptunian objects, 400 stars, most of the nebulas and clusters around our Sun on a 7000 l.y range. It also displays all the Messier objects, 750 transneptunians, 10 000 asteroids, 300 comets, 100 centaurs. You can also view the sky as it is seen from your location, and find out when does a planet rise, set or transits (the program is set to show you the sky as seen from the town of Resita Romania but you can change it as you please).
The program base version is in Romanian. Those wanting the English version must email the author to receive an additional 1 MB executable file for the interface - replacing the copernicus.exe file. | | | Filesize: | 22.28 MB | | Added on: | 02-Oct-2004 | | Downloads: | 1097 | | Rating: | 6.8 (2 Votes) | | Category: | Windows / 3D Simulation | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details
GeoPlayer Mars Demo | | Description: | The GeoPlayer Mars program allows you to explore the Red Planet in 3D from outer space to rocks on the Martian surface or fly through valleys and over craters on desktop PCs and laptop computers. This program was created with and is a demonstration of the GeoMatrix® Toolkit technology by GeoFusion, Inc.
Note: Requires 128 MB Ram and a graphics card with OpenGL hardware support. | | | Version: | 1.4.3 | | Filesize: | 31.00 MB | | Added on: | 16-Apr-2004 | | Downloads: | 847 | | Rating: | 7.4 (3 Votes) | | Category: | Windows / 3D Simulation | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details | Comments (2)
GrandTour | | Description: | GRANDTOUR can simulate space as
seen from the Voyager and Giotto spacecraft. In addition, GRANDTOUR can
generate scenes from arbitrary points in space or the Earth, with the
spacecraft visible to the observer. The planet, moons, and rings of
interest (or comet, nucleus, and tail), stars, the sun, and the
spacecraft are all accurately drawn with wireframe representations.
Hidden line removal is done for the body surfaces. The motions of the
bodies themselves are highly accurate, with errors no greater than 500
kilometers. The user has considerable control over the time step, field of
view, etc., and many frames per second are typically generated.
The program was originally developed at the Jet Propulsion
Laboratory by John D. Callahan to assist in the analysis of science and optical navigation
data. In addition, the program was filmed by the BBC as part of a NOVA
documentary on the Voyager Uranus encounter, and by the Four Point
Entertainment Company for a commercially available video on Halley''s
Comet. Program conveniently runs from any Windows/DOS.

iS3 (Windows) | | Description: | The iS3 application talks to NASA's web servers over the internet and uses their 'NASA Solar System Simulator' to return an image of any planet or moon as seen from any other planet (or some man made objects) at any given time along with some other options such as constellation lines and planet orbits.
To use it, just open up iS3 and choose the object you wish to view and where you want to view it from. Select a date, time, and image options and click "Go". An image according to your specifications will be returned just a few seconds later. To view another image, click "Back" located in the lower left hand corner of the window. | | | Version: | 1.0.1 | | Filesize: | 872.76 Kb | | Added on: | 17-June-2004 | | Downloads: | 1878 | | Rating: | 6.5 (2 Votes) | | Category: | Windows / 3D Simulation | | Homepage | Rate resource | Details | Comments (1)
